Olwen Fouere: Shapeshifter
Shapeshifter is a photographic biography of Olwen Fouere, using myth and place to explore the many facets of her identity as an actress, woman, and storyteller. Set on the shore outside her childhood home in rural Connemara, the series intertwines the landscape’s shifting tides with the fluidity of Olwen’s personal and artistic journey.
Drawing on Irish mythology and symbolism, including the recurring white feather as a sign of transformation and spiritual presence, the work positions Olwen as a modern-day shaman—a guardian of stories and a bridge between worlds. Collaborating with a young Connemara designer, the series fuses contemporary craftsmanship with the ancient rhythms of the land and sea.
Shapeshifter is an exploration of memory, place, and identity—revealing how myth and environment shape the stories we tell about ourselves, and how Olwen’s life and art embody constant change and resilience rooted in home.
